Gerrit Knoetsen was born before 11 July 1706 in de Caep de Goede Hoop.¹

Baptism

Gerrit Knoetsen was baptized on 11 July 1706 Nederduitsche Gereformeerde Kerk, Drakenstein, de Caep de Goede Hoop. The baptism was witnessed by Maria Elisabeth Jooste. This witness has not been positively identified but Maria Elisabeth Jooste is(are) potentially the correct individual(s). This is most likely the baptism of Gerrit Knoetsen ... his sibling Geertruijt was baptized on 11 November 1697 and was still alive in July 1706.^2,3

Marriage*

He married Anna Maria Mini, daughter of Jean Willems Mine and Susanna Maerschalk, on 15 January 1741 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, Drakenstein, de Caep de Goede Hoop.⁴

11 July 1706, the name of Gerrit Knoetsen was erroneously written in the record as Geertruijt Corsel.²
15 January 1741, the name of Gerrit was written in the record as Gerrit Cnoetse.⁴

Notes [by Richard Ball on the above web page]: This child is clearly recorded in the Drakenstein baptismal register as 'Geertruij' but it to me it seems most likely that this was a mistake of the scribe and that the child baptised was, in fact, Gerrit Knoetsen. In the list of the Knoetsen wards of the Weeskamer, 1727, he is listed, with his brothers and sisters, and comes between Catarijn and Maria Coressen. (Cape Archives: MOOC 18/4)."
