Mariqua was from Malabar Coast and was perhaps born there between 1679 and 1681. She was said to be 10 to 12 years old in 1691.¹

On 15 June 1691 Mariqua van Malabar was sold by Gerrit Cornelisz: Kriek to Cornelis Jansz Simons, for Rds. 30.²
