Sara van de Caep was baptized on 30 October 1695 Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk, (Cape Town), de Caep de Goede Hoop.²

Slave Births

Before 30 October 1695, Sara van de Caep was born in bondage and was owned by Elsie van Suurwaerden de Caep de Goede Hoop.¹

Slave Transactions

On 13 November 1697 Maria van Bengale, Sara van de Caep and Unnamed Child van de Caep were sold by Hendricùs Munckerùs to Annetie Jans Loùw, for Rds. 100 and on condition that Sara was to be manumitted at age 24 or 25.³

Böeseken, Slaves and Free Blacks at the Cape 1658-1700 (Cape Town: Tafelberg, 1977), p. 180. 13.11.1697, p. 272: Mariana from Cochin (20), together with two children (a boy, and a girl baptised Sara), sold by Hendrick Munckerus to the widow of Hendrick Elberts of Stellenbosch on condition that when Sara reached the age of 24 or 25, she would be given full freedom ("volkomen vrijdom"). Annatje Louw, the widow of Hendrik Elbcrts, paid Rds. 100 for the three slaves.. Hereinafter cited as Slaves and Free Blacks at the Cape 1658-1700.
