I noticed on the e-Family Website you have Philippus Cornelius SMIT1 {M} [P209] as unlinked. The reason for this would be that he changed his surname from SMITH to Smit after he had endless problems with life insurance policies and was advised by his lawyer to rather change his surname to Smit has it would be easier than to change the surname on the policies from Smit to Smith.
His son and daughter decided to keep Smit without the "h" after that.
